The American Legion Post 20 Peninsula Twins split a doubleheader with the Wasilla Road Warriors Wednesday in Wasilla. The Twins picked up the win in the first game, 12-7, before absorbing a 6-3 defeat in the second game.

The Twins jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first game, but Wasilla came back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Post 20's Phillip France relieved starter Corey Grimm. France and Shane Dunn combined to hold the Warriors scoreless over the last four innings.

Meanwhile, the Twins' bats were getting busy again. Post 20 notched five runs in the top of the sixth inning to put away the game.

A number of Twins had big offensive performances in the first game: David Newby was 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs, Bud Baun was 3-for-6 with three runs, Cory Janson was 2-for-5 with two runs, Derek Martin scored three runs, Scott Foster had three RBIs and Kenneth Butler had two RBIs.

In the second game, the Road Warriors struck for five runs in the second off Twins starter and loser Ely Evanson. Post 20 was never able to recover.

Leading Post 20 on offense in that game were Janson, who scored two runs, and Baun, who finished 2-for-4.

The Twins have a busy weekend planned. Post 20 will play a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader Saturday against East Anchorage at Kosinski Fields. The Twins will then face Bartlett in a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader Sunday at Kosinski Fields.
