Outdoors with John Perkovich

Posted: Tuesday, June 14, 2005

Many years ago, in a land far far away. Oh wait that is a different story. Really, several years ago, John wrote a story that took the place of the then "Outdoors" writer, Spence DeVito, talking about what a special person and friend Spence is. That letter was a surprise for the then writer of this column and I hope this one is a surprise for the current writer. As a family we would like to thank everyone for the encouraging words and comments we receive about John's writing. Happy Father's Day, my dear husband.

To my dad-

I cannot even begin to thank you enough for everything that you have done for me in the last 24 years...you have been there whenever I've needed you, you've always offered to help me no matter what, and have always been #1 in my heart. I think the world of you not only as a father but also as a person and your thoughtfulness and unselfishness is proof of that. I hope you have a wonderful Father's Day knowing that your family simply couldn't do without you and will always love you! Don't ever forget that. Happy Father's Day!

Your oldest,

Bradley

Dear Dad,

I would like to take a moment to thank you for all that you do for all of us kids. Thanks for all of the little things you do for us to show us that you really do love us. Little things like going with me (during hunting season) to Massachusetts so I could have my car while I was away at college. Thanks for always making sure we have breakfast before we leave the house even if it means making us eggs when yours were all ready for you to eat! Thanks for the extra bucks when we're out and need a little money or just because. I HOPE YOU HAVE A HAPPY FATHERS DAY. Thanks for being there for me when I need you, and even when I don't!

I LOVE YOU

Jessie

For years my dad has entertained you all with his stories. In fact, some of you only know him because of them. Well I am fortunate enough to know him as a parent, a boss, and most of all. A friend.

Over the years I have had and lost many animals. Each time, he's been there for me. I have been able to have many awesome fishing and a few hunting trips with him.

My dad is one of the most important people in my up bringing.

Dad, thank you for the many enjoyable years of hunting, fishing, and other memories. Even though I'm getting older and going a million different directions, you will always be one of my heroes, and you will always have a working partner here.

Oh yeah, can you please get those burgers done? One guy wants a double cheeseburger with no tomatoes.

Love always,

Kimberly (Bimmers)

Dear Dad,

You are the greatest Dad I could ask for, and I love you so much! You are always there when I need you, and you know how to make me laugh at any moment! I will never forget all our wonderful camping trips, fun fishing trips, and especially our wild basketball, baseball, and kickball games during the summer. I admire you dad, and I am very thankful for all the hard work you do for our family. Thank you for being there. Thank you for everything. You are my hero (one of them, mom's the other!)

I LOVE YOU

XOXOXO

Alea

Dear Dad,

Thanks for always being there. I love it when we went on to Beluga, Montana, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and the Swanson River. My favorite things to do with you are fishing, hunting, and going on trips.

I love you lots,

Travis Perkovich (AKA Buddy)

P.S. We all love you lots!
