Soldotna Mayor Dave Carey presents Bob Sizemore with an official proclamation making June 7th Bob Sizemore Community Parent Day.
Since 1992 or earlier the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce has been recognizing outstanding youth from Soldotna Middle, Skyview, and Soldotna High School, as students of the month and honoring them at a regular Chamber luncheon. Bob Sizemore has been sponsoring those lunches for the last 13 years, "Bob Sizemore has not only helped out young people by sponsoring students of the month, but he has helped out with Boys & Girls Clubs, Scholarship committees, and a host of community activities to help young people do better in our community and that's why I have proclaimed June 7th as Bob Sizemore Community Parent Day in the greater Soldotna area," said Soldotna Mayor David Carey last week at the Chamber meeting where Sizemore was presented with the official proclamation. Being recognized rather than recognizing others caught Sizemore by surprise, "It's a humbling experience, I'm just proud to live in a community that has done so much for my family and this is just my way of giving back to the community. The reason I wanted to be part of this program is because it recognizes excellence in young people and that's just something that we can never do enough of," said Sizemore. One of Bob's latest efforts is a program for youth called "Hook a Kid on golf." The program sponsored by the Birch Ridge Golf Association selected 16 young people from a field of 47 who applied to participate. The week long event is part of the national Hook a Kid on Golf program and concluded last weekend at Birch Ridge Golf Course.
