Flag Day ceremony today

American Legion Post No. 20 will host a Flag Day ceremony at 6:30 p.m. today at the post on the corner of Main and Cook in Kenai. The ceremony will feature the proper disposal of unserviceable American flags. The public is encouraged to attend. For more information, call 283-3222.

Players looking to clean up

Members of the Soldotna High School football team are looking for opportunities to earn money for football camp. Community members interested in helping out may call Sarge Truesdell at 262-1232 or e-mail him at sarge @kpbsd.k12.ak.us.

LeeShore seeking volunteers

The LeeShore Center is seeking volunteers to help remove items from its Close Closet and Kitchen Pantry prior to a remodeling project and then help replace them when the project is finished.

Solstice celebration planned

The 27th annual Moose Pass Summer Solstice Celebration will be held at from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Mile 29.5 of the Seward Highway. Vendor booths, arts, crafts, games, food, a pie baking contest and live music are some of the planned activities. Proceeds will benefit Moose Pass Community Hall, Fire Department and EMS and the library. For more information, call (907) 288-3150.

AYEA summit planned

Alaska Youth for Environmental Action will host its annual summer get together Aug. 9 through 14 in Homer. This statewide training focuses on climate change and renewable energy. Participants will learn about climate change from native elders, biologists and other leaders; participate in youth-led leadership activities; build skills in media, communication and problem-solving; experience outdoor recreation; visit demonstration sites and learn about renewable energy options and projects in Alaska; and design community action projects to address issue in their communities during the 2005-06 school year.

Teams made up of two and three teens from area communities are encouraged to apply. The cost is $260 for the week and includes meals, accommodations, training facilities, materials and workshops.
