Cody Carver will have a chance to see the world this summer after participating in a hockey showcase in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Carver, a student and hockey player at Kenai Central High School who is preparing for his senior year, participated in a hockey showcase conducted by Global Sports Scouting Services.

The hockey showcase provides a forum for scouts and coaches from junior and collegiate programs to evaluate players, and Carver caught the eye of a coach putting together an under-18 team for a tour of Europe later this summer.

"Mostly my speed and my skills," Carver said of the things that were noticed. "He said I should do well at the Olympic-size rinks."

Carver will be the only American skater on Team Canada, a squad assembled by Azorcan Global, a company that specializes in sports tours.

"I'll take it more as a compliment," Carver said of being the only American on the team.

Carver's itinerary will take him to Germany, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic to play European teams. The trip culminates with the Challenge Cup tournament in Prague, Czech Republic.

Carver said his goal is to play college hockey and expects his trip to Europe will help him toward that goal in addition to being a whole lot of fun.

"There's supposed to be scouts there, and there's going to be teams from all over Europe. It'll be fun, and I should get noticed," Carver said.
