Desire to help drives idea for oil changes

Posted: Thursday, June 15, 2006

Recently the Men’s Ministry at the Church of God and the Christian Sportsman Fellowship decided that with the rising cost of fuel and living that we would help out some of the seniors and single moms in the community by changing the oil in there cars.

Forty-five Mother’s Day cards with certificates for the purchase of filters and signs were posted and everyone who showed up to the church parking lot on Saturday, June 4, got there oil changed.

We did not realize the need for help such as this until we talked with some of the folks that showed up.

It was not possible without the support of some of the local businesses to whom we would like to express our heart felt gratitude and to those who made it possible — Alaska Oil Sales, Sales Reps from 76 Standard Oil, Everybody Rides, Sal’s Restaurant, Jay’s Painting, CarQuest, Soldotna Church of God, Alan Humphries, Ken Cleary, Bruce Brown, the Men of the Fellowship, the Men’s Ministry at S.C.O.G. and the local daycares.

If we forgot anyone, we’re extremely sorry, but God knows who you are. We are already planning our next event so keep watching.
