Spit Run registration now open

Registration is now under way for the annual Homer News Spit Run scheduled for June 23.

Early registration for the 10K race is free. Registration forms can be downloaded from the Homer News Web site at There will be a $5 fee for those registering after 5 p.m. on June 19. Spit Run T-shirts also are now being sold and will be available at the high school before the race and at the finish line. The cost is $20 for short-sleeved shirts and $25 for long-sleeved shirts. On the day of the race, check-in is from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at Homer High School, with the race beginning at 10 a.m. The Inlet Winds Community Band will provide pre-race warm-up music.

The race finishes at the end of the Homer Spit, by Land’s End Resort. Official timing ends at noon. A free shuttle will be offered until noon for runners to return to Homer High to pick up cars.

The race is for all abilities and ages, and runners also are invited to participate in costumes.

There will be a post-race party on the deck of Land’s End, which will include a no-host barbecue. Music will be by Mr. Roily and His Kooky Clams. Prizes for the fastest man and woman will be given. Race participants are invited to watch the start of the 11th Annual Homer Yacht Club Land’s End Regatta at the completion of the Spit Run. For more information, call the Homer News at 235-7767. All-conference softball, baseball announced

Adam Trieweiler and Josh Gilbert, members of the second-place Homer baseball team, were named to the South Central All-Conference first team recently. Named to the second team was Homer’s Tad Martin and Johnny Watry and Soldotna’s Larsen Kohler and Justice Elson.

Nyssa Baechler, Lauren Bell and Jorden Greiner, members of Homer’s first-place softball team, were also named to the Northern Lights All-Conference first team. SoHi’s Vanessa Cleveland and Annie Gardner and Seward’s Lindsey Von Borsteo were also selected to the first team. Homer’s Jackie Hall and Courtney Stage and Soldotna’s Sierra Madden were all named to the all-conference second team.
