Return of the Salmon celebrated

Posted: Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Many thanks to the community volunteers who made the eighth annual Return of the Salmon Celebration at Heritage Place such a great success.

Heritage Place residents look forward every year to the Return of the Salmon Celebration where they, Soldotna Seniors, Kenaitze Elders, Kenai Seniors, Heritage Place staff, and the families of residents are treated to a great salmon and halibut dinner with special side dishes and home-grown entertainment.

A large round of applause to Peter Brennan, Gwen Johnson and John Nelson for organizing this annual event. Special thanks to the Soldotna Rotary Club: Bill Wirin, Larry Van Ray, Merrill Sikorski, Ken Duff, David Wartinbee and Dennis Murray. Thank you to Jim Fellman, Michael Krohn, Ed Krohn and Bob's Trophy Charters for donating the fish. Thank you to Jason Paret and Peter Brennan grilling the salmon. Thank you to Irv Carlisle for donating and cooking the corn and to Ken Laing for loaning the corn roaster. The roasted corn on the cob was a huge success. Thanks to Gary Toombs and Coca Cola for donating soft drinks and to Soldotna Senior Center for their huge bowl of cole slaw. Many thanks to the Heritage Place kitchen and maintenance staff for their contributions and assistance in bringing it together and tying up loose ends.

Thank you to Sue Biggs, Jack Will, Jason and Celest Chavarria and Bonnie Nichols for the beautiful music.

Thank you to everyone who donated their time and effort to making this year's celebration a special day for our community's seniors.
