Public Health schedules immunization clinics

Immunization visits Kenai Public Health Center are available by appointment to reduce waiting time. Appointment times in Kenai are on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 6 p.m.

Appointment times in Soldotna, at the Cottonwood Health Center, are from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m. on Thursdays.

Golf tourney to tee off

The 7th annual Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Funny River Quilters will be held June 19 at 1 p.m. at the Bird Homestead Golf Course. Registration begins at noon.

The cost is $55 and includes the barbecue following the tournament. This is an 18 hole, blind draw scramble, best-ball tournament.

Teams to be made up of four players. Teams are welcome, but will not be eligible for prizes if the team does not consist of 1 A, B, C, and D player. Mulligans are $5 each, limit 2 and will be available along with other chances for prizes on specific holes. The number of carts is limited, so reserve one early by calling 260-4653 (only 2 carts per team). Tournament is limited to 72 players.

This is the only fundraing event the quilters have for buying thread, batting and some materials for making quilts for those in need here on the peninsula. All of the quilts are donated, with over a hundred being given to Central Peninsula Hospital for the oncology department and the new babies, Heritage House, Lee Shore center, the ABC birthing center, and familes whose homes have burned, just to name a few. Right now we are making quilts to donate to the VFW to distribute to returning veterans.

Family planning services appointments extended

Kenai Public Health Center's family planning services will offer extended hours on Wednesdays. Appointment times have been extended to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call 335-3400.

Pet photos can be color or black and white and should be no smaller than 3-by-5 inches. They may include people. Limit one photo per household. They can be dropped off at the Kenai office, mailed to the Clarion at P.O. Box 3009, Kenai, 99611, or e-mailed to A brief explanation of the photo, the pet's and owner's names, owner's address and phone number must be included.

Cardiac support group to meet

The Cardiac Patient Support Group will meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the Redoubt Room, located in the lower level at Central Peninsula Hospital. The group invites male and female patients dealing with heart disease and their family members to participate. La Leche group to meet

The La Leche League of Soldotna and Kenai will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the Frontier Community Services Playroom in the Red Diamond Center on Kalifornsky Beach Road. The league is a breastfeeding resource group that offers free monthly meetings, mother-to-mother breastfeeding support, telephone assistance and a lending library.
