NOME (AP) A Nome fisherman died Saturday morning after his boat shifted and crushed him as it was being moved.
Randy Ellingworth was rushed from the Nome small boat harbor to Norton Sound Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Fire Chief Wes Perkins said Ellingworth was working to get his fishing boat into the water for the Norton Sound summer crab season.
Ellingworth and others were lifting the boat off its cribbing with a loader when the boat tipped to one side and momentarily pinned Ellingworth, crushing him. KNOM-radio reported that a loading crane used to hoist boats was out of service.
Ellingworth was a longtime fisherman who had worked to develop and maintain increased fishing opportunities for Nome's local fleet.
