Strong earthquake occurs near Buldir Island

ANCHORAGE (AP) A strong earthquake struck Sunday near Buldir Island in the Aleutian Islands.

The earthquake had a preliminary 6.6 magnitude, and was centered 60 miles southeast of Buldir. It occurred at 11:25 a.m.

The quake was felt at Eareckson Air Station on Shemya, but there were no reports of damage, said Tech. Sgt. Theo McNamara at Elmendorf Air Force Base.
