To all of you who were immersed in your cell phone conversation, to those of you who believe it's OK to text and drive, to all of you who think you can apply makeup or reach that newspaper on the floor or whatever it was you were doing when you didn't notice that someone was stopped on the highway because they couldn't turn left just yet: Please stop it.
Focus on your driving. You are not in a video game; you don't get points for killing, and you have no extra lives. This is you in a mobile piece of rubber, steel and plastic, hurtling across asphalt at 55 miles per hour. If you were running on foot toward a brick wall, you would have more sense not to text, wouldn't you? So why on earth were you so casual about the backside of my Honda?
Had I not seen you careening toward my rear view mirror and hit the gas pedal, none of us would be here now, would we?
I'm just glad you had the sense to swerve. And I had the sense not to soil my shorts.
