Posted: Sunday, June 17, 2001

BOSTON (AP) -- Kristine Lilly scored in the second half to lead the Boston Breakers to a 1-0 victory over the Washington Freedom in the WUSA on Saturday night.

The victory was the first in five home matches for Boston (3-4-3).

Lilly scored on a long feed from Allison Kemp, gathering the pass at the top of the box and beating Freedom goalkeeper Siri Mullinix to her left.

Washington's Mia Hamm nearly tied the game in the 90th minute, but her shot hit the crossbar.

Boston goalkeeper Tracy Ducar made six saves in the second half. Washington (4-4-2) had eight second-half shots after putting only one ball on net in the first half.

Boston's Dagny Mellgren (Norway) and Maren Meinert (Germany), who have combined for 20 points this season, did not play. They are playing for their national teams in the European Championships.
