Area student named to chancellor's list

Morgan M. Mize of Sterling was named to the chancellor's list for the spring semester at the University of Alaska Anchorage. The daughter of Wayne and Mary Mize of Sterling, she is a Soldotna High School graduate and a UAA junior studying history. To be named to the chancellor's list, students must be enrolled full time and maintain a 4.0 grade point average.

Sterling woman completes master's degree

Anne DeSmidt Taylor, the daughter of Joseph and Rebeca DeSmidt of Sterling, graduated Saturday with a master's degree in applied psychology with an emphasis in mental health counseling.

She recently completed a nine-month internship at the counseling center at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore., and plans to spend her summer interning at Jackson County Mental Health. She plans to seek her doctoral degree in social psychology beginning in 2003.

Taylor lives in Talent, Ore., with her husband of two years, Jonathan Taylor.

Students graduate from Cedarville University

Alison Kay Reemtsma of Kenai and Diamond Richard Redmond of Soldotna graduated from Cedarville University in Ohio on June 1.

Reemtsma, a 1998 Kenai Central High School graduate, earned a bachelor's degree in communication arts and was recognized for her participation in the honors program. She is the daughter of Phil and Eileen Reemtsma of Kenai.

Redmond, a 1998 Soldotna High School graduate, earned a bachelor's degree in business. He also was recognized for his participation in the honors program. He is the son of Tom and Sonja Redmond of Soldotna.

Nikiski student finishes college with perfect GPA

Michael Rae Henry of Nikiski is one of just five students in the Montana State University Class of 2002 to finish their undergraduate degrees with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Henry completed his course studies in December for a degree in biological sciences.

Area student completes GED, plans future studies

Melvin Juliussen Jr. completed his GED in May. He is the son of Katie Juliussen and the recently-deceased Melvin Juliussen Sr. He soon will leave for an audio vocational training school in Arizona.

Soldotna student to study overseas

Jessica L. Foster of Soldotna recently left to continue her Harding University overseas program in Florence, Italy. Foster, a junior mathematics major at the Arkansas university, is among 33 students participating in Harding's Florence program.

The group will focus on the architecture, art, music and theater history of the Italian city, supplementing studies with trips to Rome, Pompeii, Naples and Greece.

Foster is the daughter of Steve and Becky Foster of Soldotna.

Area students graduate from UAA

Three peninsula students earned degrees from the University of Alaska Anchorage this May. Garrett M. Ennis of Kenai, earned an associate of arts degree in music education; Ludmilla M. Mika of Kenai earned an associate of arts degree in liberal arts; and Jennifer F. Showalter of Kenai earned a master's degree in social work.
