The Friends of the Kenai Community Library are seeking volunteers for their annual book sale. Workers are being sought to accept donations of books and media, hand out shopping bags, assist buyers, staff the payment table and explain the opportunities to buy tiles in the new expanded library. The Book Sale will be held at the former Allen & Petersen location on the Kenai Spur Highway on June 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and June 19 from 1o a.m. to 2 p.m. The pre-sale for members of the Friends is Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Those who wish to volunteer during the sale may call the chairs Kari Mohn at 283-4258 or MJ Loveland at 283-9237.
Soldotna Rotary Club is looking for donations of new and used paperback books to send to our Overseas Troops. Drop off sites for donated books are: HiSpeed Gear & KDLL in Kenai, Blazy Construction & Sweeney's Clothing in Soldotna.
Troop Care Packages are sent to any American Service Member serving overseas.

Cowchip Triathlon/Matti Martin Farm Fest
June 19 at the Martin s Diamond M Ranch in Kenai, 12 hours of music, fun, games, food, and activities. Highlighting the activities is the Cowchip Triathlon. Open to all ages in 3 categories. The swimming event will be held on an above ground pool (40 x 80), seated on inner tubes on a circular course. The biking and running legs will be around the pasture on the farm (off-road bikes). The triathlon is dedicated to Matti Martin, last year s winner who was killed in an animal accident in September. Families and team entries are encouraged, distances depending on age. There will be the 19th God & Country Rally on June 27 at Kenai Central High School at 6 p.m.The special speaker will be coming from Washington State and his name is Gary Thornton. Gary is a Vietnam Vet who was a POW for 6 years and 12 days. His 4-18 was bombed and his pilot that day was killed intheir planeand his name is Major Russell C. Goodman who's daughter is Sue Stein of Soldotna and husband George. Major Goodman's remains were found and identified in November 2009 and brought back home in January 2010.
Special music will be provided by Cissy Padgett, a renown recording artist, and local talent. The rally is supporting the Red, White and Blue campaign by attendees bringing a gift of canned fish or candy for troops serving overseas.
