SEWARD (AP) -- A man died after the car he was driving collided head-on with a truck, Alaska State Troopers said.

The accident occurred around 5 p.m. Sunday at mile 74 of the Seward Highway when a pickup traveling north attempted to pass in a no passing zone. The driver of the car, Paul McLaughlin, 80, of Anchorage, saw the truck enter his lane and moved into the slow lane, but the truck also entered the same lane and the two vehicles collided.

McLaughlin, the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, Troy Morehead, 28, of Elmendorf Air Force Base, and his wife Jennifer Morehead, 24, and their 7-year-old daughter Katie, were all taken to Elmendorf Hospital. Their injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

The accident closed the highway for about three hours.
