Annual run planned

The city of Kenai is sponsoring its annual Summer Solstice 5-kilometer fun run or walk Friday beginning at 10 a.m. at Leif Hansen Memorial Park in Kenai.

Quilting extravaganza planned

The Quilting on the Kenai seventh annual Quilt Extravaganza will be held Thursday through Saturday at Cook Inlet Academy. There will be vendor booths, door prizes and demonstrations, including featured guest Letitia Hutchings.

A wearable art fashion show will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at CIA.

Class helps kids be safe sitter

Safe Sitter classes will be held June 25 and 26, July 12 and 13 and Aug. 6 and 7. Classes are open to kids, both boys and girls, ages 11 to 13. Each student must pass a rigorous written exam at the end of the course.

Participants can register by calling 262-8172. Classes are on a first come, first served basis. The cost of the course materials is $25.

Soldotna, Kenai class reunion planned

The 20-year class reunion for the 1981 classes of Kenai and Soldotna will be held June 29 and 30. For registration information, call Lori Brown at 262-2398 or send an e-mail to lbrown@alaska.net.

Volunteers wanted for annual dog show

Calling all dog lovers: The Kenai Kennel Club will hold its three-day American Kennel Club dog show July 13, 14 and 15. The show includes all breed confirmation, obedience and agility competitions.

Anyone who would like to work is invited to take part. Most jobs are easy and fun. For more information, call Marian Bowser at 260-7721.

Interest sought in Head Start program

Kenaitze Head Start is looking for interest in an Alaska Family Development Training and Credentialing Program. The program is $472 and credit can be earned toward a degree from University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Soldotna museum open for summer

The Soldotna Historical Society Homesteader Village and Museum is open through Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The museum is on Centennial Park Road in Soldotna.

Beginning Thursday, Lorraine Larsen will teach fur skin sewing classes at the museum every Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donations are requested

Independent Living Center is accepting donations of wheelchairs, walkers and equipment for those with vision or hearing impairments. Monetary donations also will be accepted to help Alaskans with disabilities.

Guided tours to be held weekly

The Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center will hold guided tours on Old Town Kenai on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3 p.m.
