Post 20 splits at Chugiak

The American Legion Post 20 Twins baseball team split a pair of games against Chugiak in Anchorage Sunday.

The Twins took the first game of the doubleheader 15-11, but ran out of gas -- and players -- and lost the second game by forfeit with the Mustangs leading .

The Twins, short on pitchers this season, used four hurlers to get through the first game. Ely Evanson threw six innings to start, Shane Dunn relieved him in the seventh and Kenneth Butler and Corey Grim combined to finish off the final three innings.

Butler led the Twins' effort at the plate with a 4-for-6 afternoon, driving in five runs with a double and three singles. Derek Martin was 4-for-4 with an RBI.

The Twins scored seven of their runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-4 lead, then withstood a late-inning rally by the Mustangs.

Third baseman Kyle Foster was pressed into pitching duty to start the second game, going three innings, and was relieved by Zack Hicks, but the Twins had to forfeit when they couldn't put nine players on the field in the sixth inning.

David Newby had a pair of doubles and scored twice for the Twins, and Martin hit an RBI triple.
