Horsemanship clinic ready to ride

CPHC board of directors to meet

Teacher set to learn

The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai will host the sixth annual Summer Teachers Institute today through Friday. The topic will be “Volcanoes and Robotics of Earth and Space.” The workshop is open to teachers. Professional development credits are available. For more information, call Leah Eskelin at 283-2000.

Swim lessons make a splash

Swim lessons are offered at the following pools:

· Soldotna High School — Swim sessions will be 10 days of lessons, for 40 minutes. Lessons are open for children ages 3 and older. Preregistration is recommended. Lessons will be held: Today through June 29; (pool closed July 2-6); July 9-20; and July 23-Aug. 3. Lessons are offered six times a day. For more information, call 262-7419. The cost is $40 for a swim lessons set. Private and semi-private lessons are available. Pool hours are: lap swim from 6 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday, and open swim from 2 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

· Kenai Central High School — Swim lessons: Eight days of swim lessons for 40 minutes Tuesdays through Fridays (call for times). Preregistration required. Lessons will be held: Tuesday through June 29; July 3-13 (closed July 4); and July 17-27.

Pool hours will be lap swim from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday; and swim workout 8 to 9 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The cost is $32 per swim lesson session; $3 for lap swim or open swim; or $25 for a punch card with 10 punches on the card. For more information, call 283-7476.

· Nikiski pool — Swimming lessons will be held: June 26-July 12 for competitive swim and juniors, lifeguarding, beginners, advanced beginners and Tiny Tots; and July 17-Aug. 2 for intermediates, beginners, advanced beginners and Tiny Tots. For more information, call 776-880

Free ice cream there for the picking

The fourth annual Dandelion Sundae will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge on Ski Hill Road. Participants are asked to bring a full bag of dandelions or a digging tool to help clear dandelions from the refuge and receive a free ice cream sundae for you efforts. Sterling has Christmas in July

The Sterling Senior Citizen’s Center will hold “Christmas in July,” a sale of hand-crafted items from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 13 and 14. The Elderberry Cafe will be open both days and homemade baked goods will be available for purchase. Tables may be reserved for $25 for two days for inside tables or for $15 for outside tables.
