Swimming lessons set at SoHi

The Soldotna High School pool is offering swimming lessons throughout the summer. Classes are taught by Red Cross-certified instructors. Pool hours are 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call the pool at 262-7419.

Visitor center offers guided toursP>

One-hour guided walking tours of Old Town Kenai are available through the summer from the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Tours take place Tuesday through Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost is $5. For more information or to schedule large group tours, call Ricky Gease at 283-1991.

Fun run fund-raiser slated

The sixth annual Jeff Ransom Memorial Fun Run will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson Lake Day Picnic Area on Johnson Lake and Crooked Creek roads in Kasilof. Registration will be held at the race site from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Donations will be accepted in lieu of a registration fee and proceeds will be donated to the Alaska Mountain Safety Center. The 5 kilometer family-style run, roll, walk, bike or crawl will be followed by a barbecue picnic at noon. An awards ceremony will follow, accompanied by live music. Free child developmental screening

Parents with questions about their child's development are invited to free developmental screening. For more information, call Frontier Community Services Early Intervention at 262-3144.

Kenai chamber to sponsor parade

The annual Kenai Fourth of July parade, sponsored by the Kenai Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 1 p.m. on July 4, starting on Willow Street and continuing on the Kenai Spur Highway. The parade theme is "Kenai -- A Great Place for Space!"

Booths will be located in front of the softball fields on Main Street that will include food, crafts and live music.

Progress Days Parade accepting entries

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is accepting parade entries from clubs, organizations, businesses and community groups for the 41st annual Progress Days Parade. The parade will be held July 22. All entries must be received by the chamber office before July 17.

Volunteers needed for Run for Women

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center's 13th annual 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer Run for Women will be held Aug. 12, starting at the Kenai softball fields green strip.

Volunteers will be needed prior to and on race day.
