KODIAK (AP) -- The Coast Guard makes most rescues off Alaska's coast, but Alaska State Troopers stepped in two save two guardsmen Saturday.
Troopers received a call shortly after 9 p.m. that two kayakers had overturned and needed help between Wood Island and Mission Beach near Kodiak.
Troopers responded by boat and pulled out Jason Collins, 26, and Joergens Reno, 20, both of the Coast Guard.
Troopers said the men had been treading water for about 20 minutes.
Both were taken to shore and then to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center for hypothermia treatment. They were treated and released.
