Participation made Relay a formidable movement

Posted: Monday, June 19, 2006

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The only way to begin is by remarking on the awesome generous community in which we live. While in February we may be asking ourselves, “Now why am I here?,” the answer is available all year long. The most recent moment to celebrate being a part of this community/peninsula is the response to the American Cancer Society’s 2006 Relay For Life.

Approximately one thousand luminaria were sponsored and lit in honor of survivors or in memory of those who have lost their lives to cancer. Nearly 700 participants walked, some for one lap, some for as long as nine hours. Hundreds more people donated dollars, time, leadership, creativity, and the “right stuff” needed to support a giant moving slumber party with participants ranging from 3 months old to 86 years old.

What an amazing task and what an overwhelming response from you!

A more proper thank-you will follow, thanks to yet another sponsor, but please know that each and everyone of you who were connected with this event in any way is helping to make a difference in the American Cancer Society’s efforts to support cancer patients, friends and family, to educate, and to continue the work to eradicate cancer deaths. Visit for more information. Check out 2015 — a very important date. Call the 24/7 Hotline 1-800 ACS-2345.

It’s never too early to start making plans for your 2007 Relay For Life Team.

Thank you and see you next year.
