Unocal rep to speak at Soldotna chamber lunch

The Greater Soldotna Chamber of Commerce weekly luncheon today will feature Martin Morell, oil and gas representative for Unocal, as the guest speaker. The luncheon begins at noon at the Riverside House. For more information, call 262-9814.

Land trust to sponsor village site tour today

The Kachemak Heritage Land Trust will feature a tour of a 1,500-year-old Native village site on the Kenai River today from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Alan Boraas will lead the tour where he and his students are excavating the site to learn how early residents interacted with each other and their environment.

The tour costs $10 per person and $20 per family. Proceeds go to support the trust's conservation work. For more information, call 260-1999.

Kenai River Center plans Thursday meeting

The Kenai River Center is holding its second meeting on how to spend $340,000 it received from the federal Environmental Protection Agency for research and educational projects in the Kenai River watershed.

Any individual or organization wishing to submit a project proposal should plan a short presentation to give at the meeting. It will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture building on Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Emergency planning panel to meet Wednesday

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Emergency Planning Committee is scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Borough Building in Soldotna. The public is invited to attend.

School superintendent to speak at Nikiski chamber

The North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly luncheon meeting at noon Thursday at the Lighthouse Inn. School District Superintendent Donna Peterson will be the guest speaker. The public is welcome to attend.

Sterling Community Club to meet Thursday

The Sterling Community Club will meet Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the log cabin. The meeting is to make up last week's canceled meeting.

Support group to hold picnic

The support group for fetal-alcohol-affected children and their care providers will enjoy a time of picnicking and sharing at noon on Saturday at Riverside Park, located in Soldotna behind Hutchings Chevrolet.

Kenai chamber to sponsor parade

The annual Kenai Fourth of July parade, sponsored by the Kenai Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 1 p.m. on July 4, starting on Willow Street and continuing on the Kenai Spur Highway. The parade theme is "Kenai -- A Great Place for Space!"

Booths will be located in front of the softball fields on Main Street that will include food, crafts and live music.
