WASILLA (AP) -- Explosives were spotted in the back of a car during a traffic stop Monday night, according to Wasilla police.

Patrick Jasper, 50, was stopped for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Officers say they then spotted six blasting caps in whiskey bottles in the back seat of his car, next to a propane tank.

An ordnance disposal team from Fort Richardson was called in. The explosives were taken to a vacant field and detonated.

Jasper was taken to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.

So far, he faces charges of driving while intoxicated and driving with a revoked license. Police say their investigation is continuing.
