Jews for Jesus programs slated

Susan Mendelson of Jews for Jesus will share her heritage as a Jewish woman and believer in Christ during three presentations this weekend.

She will be at Good Books and More in the Willow Street shopping mall in Kenai at 6:30 p.m. tonight, at MoAdim Messianic Fellowship in the Kenai Merit Inn at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and at Kenai New Life Assembly, 209 Princess St. at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Christian poetry sought

A $1,000 grand prize is offered in a religious poetry contest sponsored by the Christian Fine Arts Society. Fifty prizes in all total $5,000. To enter, send one poem of 21 lines or less to Free Poetry Contest, 9588 Thornbush Lane, Fishers, IN 46038 or enter online at www.freecontest.com. The deadline is Monday. Entry is free.

Poems may be written on any subject, using any style, as long as the poem contains a spiritual theme. It may be a love poem, nature poem or one that inspires the reader.

Summer camp planned

Summer camps are planned in June and July at Camp Maranatha, north of Wasilla. Girls camp is Monday through June 27, junior high camp is July 14-19 and senior high camp is July 7-12. For more information, call 262-4660.

Sunday school, youth camp slated

The United Pentecostal Church has scheduled youth camps and Sunday school classes for June at the church's campground in Sterling. Youth camp for children ages 2 to 12 will be Thursday through June 29; for people ages 12 to 35, camp will be Sunday through Wednesday. Sunday school classes will be conducted at 10 a.m. every day from Thursday through June 29.

Nikiski Samaritans tee up

All are invited to a golf tournament at Cottonwood Country Club in Nikiski to raise funds for the Good Samaritan Ministries on June 28.

Tee times begin at 1 p.m. and entry costs $15 per person. The event will be a four-person scramble with prizes for best overall score and closest to the pin. Call Rachel at 776-7653 to reserve a tee time.

God and country rally set

A multi-church God and country rally is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 29 at Kenai Central High School.

The service will honor all veterans and thank God for his blessings on the nation.

Artisans, crafters sought for fest

Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Sterling is seeking artisans and crafts people to host booths at its Freedom Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 5.

The public is welcome to attend the festival, which will include carnival games, a flea market, food and live music. Booth rental is $5 and sponsors should plan to bring their own tables. Booth set-up will begin at 8 a.m. July 5 and booths must be reserved by July 3. Call Rena White at 262-0694.

Song and dance troupe performs

The Young Continentals will perform at Peninsula Grace Brethren Church, Mile 19.5 Kalifornsky Beach Road, July 6 at 9:30 and 11 a.m. The group features 30 high-energy singers, dancers and technicians ages 12 to 15 performing their cutting-edge music ministry.

Vacation Bible school planned

Peninsula Grace Brethren Church is planning a vacation Bible school for children ages 4 through sixth grade from 9 a.m. to noon July 7 to 11 at 44175 Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Rainbow Poets to award $5,000

The New Jersey Rainbow Poets will award 50 prizes totaling $5,000 in its religious poetry contest. Included is a grand prize of $1,000.

The Peninsula Oilers baseball team will take on Athletes in Action during an annual game sponsored by several area churches at 7 p.m. July 18 at Oilers Field in Kenai.

Friendship closet open

The Aurora Heights Assembly of God "Friendship Closet" is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays to meet people's clothing needs.
