Harvard grants award to Chickaloon school

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A Chickaloon school was one of eight tribal programs honored this week by Harvard University for outstanding achievements.

Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government granted a $10,000 award to the Ya Ne Dah Ah School on Tuesday at a ceremony in Bismarck, N.D.

The Chickaloon school provides teachings in Athabascan culture and language.

Chickaloon is an unincorporated community of more than 200 people 26 miles northeast of Palmer.

Tribal wellness programs, environmental projects and businesses also received awards.
