Ketchikan man accused of raping acquaintance

KETCHIKAN (AP) A Ketchikan man is accused of trying to rape a woman, authorities said.

Timmy J. Canada, 43, was been charged with first-degree sexual assault. According to court documents, Canada allegedly asked the woman to have sex with him and threatened to kill her when she refused.

He is accused of placing his hands around her throat and applying pressure until she had trouble breathing.

According to court papers, the two had just met and were in a Ketchikan apartment when the incident occurred.

Canada was being held on $25,000 bail.
