Charles Quarre is away. This simple rhyming message many of us knew from Charlie's answering machine took on new meaning with his passing on June 12. Since moving to the Kenai Peninsula 12 years ago, Mr. Quarre dedicated his time to many community organizations to help make the central peninsula a better place.
As he approached his 80th year and began to scale back, many of us wanted to publicly recognize his dedication and service, but Charles wanted no such recognition, he was doing volunteer work for himself.
In keeping with his wishes, we want
to express our appreciation in the simplest way possible: Thank you, Charlie. Our expression of gratitude is now for us.
If he could reprogram his phone and leave a message for us, no doubt he would encourage people to do good work for the betterment of our community.
