Twins go 3-1 in Anchorage

The American Legion Twins improved their record to 7-3 over the weekend with a 3-1 trip to Anchorage.

The Twins lost to Service Saturday 2-0 before coming back to beat Service 6-4. The Twins then defeated Bartlett by scores of 11-4 and 7-1.

In the opener against Service, Twins pitching continued to be stellar. The staff has an ERA of under 1. Jeff Kennedy allowed just two runs in nine innings, but the Twins left 11 runners on base in getting shut out.

The Twins rebounded in the next game with pitchers Steve Mabeus and Erich Simpson. The pitchers did not allow an earned run in the game and the Twins offense woke up and scored six runs.

Against Bartlett, the solid pitching continued. In the first game, Joe Hansen and Simpson combined to hold Bartlett down. In the second game, Kevin Epperheimer and Simpson held the Bears to just one run.

Despite some errors, Kennedy said the defense played well over the weekend. He said Cole Chappell, Scott Foster, Justin Simpson and Mabeus did a good job filling in for several outfielders that could not make the game.
