Players looking to clean up

LeeShore seeking volunteers

The LeeShore Center is seeking volunteers to help remove items from its Clothes Closet and Kitchen Pantry prior to a remodeling project and then help replace them when the project is finished.

Community members also are needed to help set up and anchor new shelving in both places. For more information, call Barbara or Cheryl at 283-9479.

Sterling group to meet

The board of directors of the the Sterling Community Coalition Group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sterling Baptist Church. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, call Renae Wall at 260-6616.

AYEA summit planned

Alaska Youth for Environmental Action will host its annual summer get-together Aug. 9 through 14 in Homer. This statewide training focuses on climate change and renewable energy. Participants will learn about climate change from Native elders, biologists and other leaders; participate in youth-led leadership activities; build skills in media, communication and problem-solving; experience outdoor recreation; visit demonstration sites and learn about renewable energy options and projects in Alaska; and design community action projects to address issue in their communities during the 2005-06 school year.

Teams made up of two and three teens from area communities are encouraged to apply. The cost is $260 for the week and includes meals, accommodations, training facilities, materials and workshops. Parade entries, vendors sought

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for Fourth of July parade entries and vendor booths. The theme for the parade is "The Spirit of Dipnetting on the Kenai." Forms are available at the chamber cabin at 402 Overland or by calling 283-7989.

Chamber seeks beauty

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce and the city of Kenai are sponsoring the annual Garden of the Week. Each week the beautification committee will select a garden in the city to highlight. Winners will be announced every Wednesday at the chamber luncheon. Winners will receive a certificate and have a sign placed in their garden. The contest will run through Sept. 6.
