ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Crowley Marine Services has delivered the second of three escort tugboats to Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. in Valdez, the companies announced this week.

The Attentive follows the first tug, the Alert, which was transferred to Alyeska in February, according to a press release released by Alyeska and Crowley. The third vessel, the Aware, is scheduled for delivery in July.

The 140-foot-long ships will serve as tanker escorts in Prince William Sound as part of Alyeska's Ship Escort Response Vessel System, the press release said.

Their function is to prevent oil spills by helping tankers through the Sound. They also will serve as response vessels, should the need arise, the press release said.
