The American Legion Post 20 Twins baseball team split a doubleheader at Wasilla Wednesday.
Ely Evanson made his first start on the mound for the Twins in the first game, pitching five innings and getting plenty of run support in Post 20's 8-6 win.
Danny Bookey took the loss in the second game, a 6-3 defeat at the hands of the Road Warriors.
The Twins put up three runs in the second inning of the second game on two Wasilla errors and RBI singles by Cory Janson and Eric Newby.
The Twins added four runs in the fourth inning with a two-run single by Newby, a base on balls to Quincy Bird to plate a run, and a sacrifice for an RBI by Dominic Plasencia.
Bird added a run with an RBI single in the top of the sixth.
Twins manager Lance Coz shouldered the blame for the Game 2 loss, saying that he should have lifted Bookey when the hurler's fastball started getting up in the strike zone.
Bookey had only thrown 60 pitches, though, and Coz stayed with him, but the Twins offense failed to take advantage of several good scoring chances.
Bookey had a lead to work with until the seventh inning, when Wasilla plated three runs on three hits and an error to take a 5-3 lead.
The Twins put a pair of runs on the board in the first inning. Janson led off with a single. Newby drove him home with a double, advanced to third on an error and scored on a ground out by Justin Payment.
Bird notched a double to drive in the Twins' third run in the fifth inning.
