LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Leaders of the oldest standing church in Louisville are looking for a new hymn to christen their sanctuary once renovations are finished next year.
Christ Church Cathedral is sponsoring a competition for an original hymn to be performed at a rededication ceremony. The 177-year-old Episcopal cathedral is undergoing a nearly $2 million restoration project -- the latest phase in a $10 million construction program.
The competition was advertised in religious publications across the country and around the world. Prizes of $750 will be awarded for both text and tune.
The deadline for lyrics is Sept. 15. Once the winning words are selected, composers will be asked to make their submissions by March 15 of next year. The winner will be announced in April.
