Weir tour set for Friday
The Kenai Watershed Forum tour of the Bear Creek Weir outside Seward will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
Cathy Cline, a technician at the weir, will lead up to 15 people on an interactive tour explaining how to identify sockeye and coho smolt. A picnic lunch will follow.

Ninilchik fair needs workers
The Kenai Peninsula State Fair in Ninilchik is seeking volunteers to come for a day of work from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Kids car-seat checks planned
Child car-seat checks will be performed at the Kenai Fire Department from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, and at the Central Emergency Services fire station in Soldotna from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 30.
Safety technicians will check to be sure the car seat or booster seat is the correct one for the child’s age, weight and height.

Sterling seniors cook up good time
The Sterling Senior Center will hold its 16th annual barbecue from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Ribs and chicken, salads, baked beans, garlic bread, beverages and desserts will be served. There also will be door prizes.
The cost is $12.50 for adults and $5 for kids ages 3 to 12.
