JUNEAU (AP) -- Members of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board turned to Lady Luck this week to help decide which of three Haines applicants would get a new beer and wine license.
Representatives of the three restaurants drew lots out of a hat to decide which one would get the license, made available when the population of Haines exceeded 1,500.
The winner was The Wild Strawberry restaurant.
ABC Board Director Doug Griffin said all three restaurants were good applicants and the board could not find any discernible distinctions between them.
Griffin said it's rare when the board must choose between competing businesses for a license and the other two restaurants can appeal the decision.
