Church's youth group playing matchmaker for pastor

BELLEVILLE, Mich. (AP) -- In his day, Belleville Church of God pastor Doug George has given his blessings to marrying couples, all the while having a tough time finding a bride for himself.

That soon may change, if his church's youth group gets its way.

The teen-agers are schooling the 32-year-old George on the etiquette of dating, and the minister says he's heeding the advice. They've even given him a makeover, including a new hairstyle and fashionable wardrobe.

All with the goal of helping find him the right mate.

''We're desperately trying to hook this man up,'' said Jason Yaeger, 17. ''He needs a woman in his life.''

George is tickled that his youth group is eager to help him get hitched.

''I'm definitely lonely,'' said George, the church's youth pastor for the past six years. ''I'm ready to settle down and have a family. I'm not embarrassed to admit it.''

So the kids, ages 13 to 18, have taken it upon themselves to play Cupid.

''Everywhere I go, I try to keep an eye out for someone who'd make a good wife,'' said Yaeger, George's hair and fashion consultant. ''It's a lot harder than we thought it would be.''
