Food bank plans upcoming events

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank has a number of activities planned in the coming weeks.

On Friday, the food bank will host the third in a series of gardening classes taught be Janice Chumley of the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Service. Chumley will present "Insects in the Garden"at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The class is free.

Colleen Deal, also of Cooperative Extension Services, will offer an eight-week series of nutrition classes at the food bank, beginning with a class on how to fillet and prepare salmon at 2:30 p.m. July 7.

Kenai Peninsula Food Bank night at the Peninsula Oiler's Ballpark in Kenai will be at 7 p.m. July 1. The Oilers will play the Anchorage Glacier Pilots. Anyone who brings two cans of food to donate will receive a free admission ticket to the game.

Then, the Mike Navarre Charity Golf Tournament kicks off at 8 a.m. July 12 at the Kenai Golf Course. A portion of the tournament proceeds will go to benefit the food bank. Registration for the blind draw format tournament is $75, and forms are available at the golf course. For more information, call Mike or Kelly at 283-5636.
