Ninilchik resident O’dile Rebecca Hanson died in April at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage, after a long battle with diabetes.
A celebration of life will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at Ninilchik Public Library. Anyone who would like to come and remember her, is welcome to attend. Snacks and punch will be served.
Before moving to Ninilchik, Mrs. Hanson and her husband, George, lived in Washington state and Homer.
Mrs. Hanson worked at the Ninilchik Senior Citizens Center and served on the Ninilchik Fair Association board. She was one of the motivators behind the formation of the Central Peninsula Computer Club, and active in several workshops that group hosted.
An active volunteer for the Ninilchik Public Library, she staffed the desk there weekly, as long as her health permitted, and many people will remember her friendliness and her willingness to help them.
She enjoying going to garage sales, and until her diabetes required amputation of her foot and then her leg, she would ride along with anyone for a day of “shopping.”
“Whenever there was a need in the community, O’dile was always one of the first to offer her help. She was a valued member of the Ninilchik community for many years, and a tireless volunteer for many community programs,” her friends said.
