Bucs have no trouble with Oilers

Peninsula side suffers first loss in Alaska Baseball League

Posted: Friday, June 23, 2006

The Peninsula Oilers fell to 1-1 in Alaska Baseball League play, dropping a 7-2 decision to the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage Thursday.

The Oilers next face the Anchorage Glacier Pilots for a pair of games, today and Saturday. Both games are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

In Thursday’s game, Dominick Duggan blasted a home run for the Bucs in the first inning, and Anchorage pitcher Lin Po You kept the Oilers batters guessing as he scattered four hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking three.

The Bucs were able to score at least one run in each inning except the fifth and the ninth — in which they did not have to bat.

The Oilers finally put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the eighth. Kip Masuda and Austin Yount drew back-to-back walks to start off the inning, and advanced to third and second on a passed ball. After a pop-up out, Jim Pollack, making his Oilers debut as a pinch hitter, hit a ball to short that was thrown away by the Bucs shortstop, allowing two runs to score. Pollack was credited with one run batted in on the play.

Though three of their four hits were doubles, the Oilers were unable to move their baserunners along, and You retired the side in order in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Andre Lamontagne took the loss, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on five hits. Lamontagne struck out one and while he did not issue a walk, he did hit three batters.

David Miller worked 3 1/3 innings of relief and gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits and four walks with one strikeout. Taylor Bills worked the final 1 2/3 innings and was touched up for three unearned runs on three hits. Bills struck out one.
