The American Legion Post 20 Peninsula Twins started off the 2001 Midnight Sun Tournament Friday with a 15-5 victory over West in Fairbanks.
Results of the Twins' Saturday game against the Fairbanks Alumni Legion Team were not available as the Clarion went to press.
Brad Burck picked up the win for the Twins Friday, upping his record to 3-0. Burck threw 90 pitches in six innings and gave up eight hits.
A combination of solid Post 20 hitting and horrendous West fielding assured the Twins put runs on the board fast. Post 20 had 11 hits in six innings before the game was called due to the 10-run rule. Meanwhile, the Eagles committed 10 errors.
Eric Newby had a big day at the plate for Post 20, going 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs. Also for the Twins, Aaron Hughes was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and Kyle Foster also was 2-for-4.
The Twins play the Tri-Cities Legion team of Fairbanks today at 3:30 p.m. The championship game will be at 7 p.m.
