FAS training to be provided

Training for those who are responsible for the care of a child with fetal alcohol syndrome is being offered Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kenai River Center.

Training is free, and a credit can be earned from Kenai Peninsula College for $45.

Registrations can be done through KPC on Monday from 8 to 8:30 a.m. For more information, call Frontier Community Services at 262-6331.

Class helps kids be safe sitters

Safe Sitter classes will be held Monday and Tuesday at the Central Peninsula General Hospital. Classes are open to kids, both boys and girls, ages 11 to 13. Each student must pass a rigorous written exam at the end of the course. Participants can register by calling 262-8172. Classes are on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost of the course materials is $25.

Other classes will be held July 12 and 13 and Aug. 6 and 7.

WRCC board to meet

The Kenai-Soldotna Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold its monthly board of directors meeting Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the center.

Marketing class slated

The Kenai Peninsula Small Business Development Center will sponsor a workshop titled Quick Marketing on a shoestring Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Red Diamond Center Suite 16. Mark Gregory will instruct the class how to market a business on a limited budget. The cost of the class is $15.

Red cross CPR classes held

The American Red Cross is taking registration for a community first aid and CPR class to be held Wednesday and Thursday. The cost is $47.

Those interested should call 262-4541 for time and location details. Red Cross courses meet all OSHA and workplace requirements. Preregistration is required for the classes.

UCIDA to meet

The United Cook Inlet Drift Association will hold its annual meeting Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Kenai Elks Club in Kenai.

Poetry slam planned

The Kenai Library Book Club will sponsor a poetry slam July 13 at the Old Town Village Restaurant. Signup for participants will be held at 6 p.m., and the event will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17, which includes soup, salad bar and drinks. For more information, call 283-4378.

Soldotna library sponsors contest

The Soldotna Public Library will sponsor a summer writing contest for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. One prize will be awarded in each of three age categories: kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade.

Entries must be turned into the library by 6 p.m. July 14. Winners will be announced on July 21. For more information, visit the library or call 262-4277.
