SOLDOTNA (AP) -- Alaska State Troopers were investigating a rash of burglaries in the Soldotna area that occurred late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

Troopers said the first incident reported was at a motorcycle shop, where a thief shut off the power and cut phone lines before breaking into the building and stealing a safe. The safe had an undisclosed amount of cash inside.

A witness told troopers he heard the alarm go off briefly at about 1:30 a.m.

A restaurant, grocery store and furniture store in the area were also burglarized at about the same time, using the same methods. Troopers did not provide details of what the thief, or thieves, may have made off with in those burglaries.

Troopers are asking residents of the area to be aware of suspicious activities during late night and early morning hours and to report the activation of alarms immediately.
