Jason Murray is a third generation jeweler and has now opened his own shop on K-Beach Rd. just pass the Poppy Lane corner.
Jason and his wife Denese are offering many unique, one-of-a-kind, and custom made items at their new store called Murray Traders. One such piece is a ceremonial native whale blubber cutting knife about four feet in length and all hand carved, "It's the only one like it or that will ever be like it in the world," said Jeff Hanson, the artist who created it and was on hand for the Grand Opening of Murray Traders.
The new store is a family operated business, "My wife Denese is a valuable asset to me and the store, she helps with the displays and keeps me on the cutting edge of what the clients are looking for," said Murray. As a third generation jeweler, Jason is experienced in appraisal and skilled at repairs, but especially enjoys the creative part of the jewelry business "Keeping up the family tradition is important to me, but being able to take raw stock and create a finished one-of-a-kind product from it is what I like best," said Murray. The gift shop offers gold nuggets, ivory, jade carvings, custom knives and ulus with caribou, baleen and ivory carved handles, belt buckles and tie tacks. Murray Traders also has a variety of diamonds, gem stones and will even repair you eyeglasses or clean those sentimental heirloom pieces with special care.
