Ham radio club tunes in

The Moose Horn Amateur Radio Club will host an emergency operations field day from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday on the grounds at Skyview High School. It is open to the public. For more information, call Rich Armstrong at 260-5673.

Swim lessons available

Kenai Central High School pool will hold four group learn-to-swim lessons. Session dates are as follows: Monday through July 8 (closed July 4); session four — July 11-22; and session five — July 25-Aug. 5. The cost is $40 per student, per session. Search on for assistant principals

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is in the process of appointing a new assistant principal for Kenai Middle School and Kenai Central High School. Since school has ended for this year, Donna Peterson would like individuals to e-mail her at with information regarding the preferred characteristics and qualifications community members would like the new assistant principals to possess.

Peterson is not seeking nominations for the position; however, specific candidates may be discussed by offering concrete evidence of why she or he would be a good or poor choice. It is also helpful to note your connection to the school, such as parent, student or community member. The deadline for comments is 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Baseball series seeks sponsors

Frontier Community Services is seeking sponsorships, donations and possible vendors for its annual World Series Baseball event July 9 at the Kenai Little League fields.

FCS is nonprofit organization that provides services to individuals with disabilities. The event provides its consumers an opportunity to participate in sport activities. For more information, call Tammy Meier at 262-6331, ext. 238, or Kathy Howard at 262-6331, ext. 276.

Parade applications available

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce has parade applications available online at for its 45th annual Progress Days Parade on July 23. There is no cost. Clubs, organizations, businesses and community members are encouraged to participate. For more information, call 262-9814.

Writers sought

The Soldotna Public Library is sponsoring a writing contest in conjunction with its summer reading programs "Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds." Children ages 7 to 18 are encouraged to participate. A T-shirt will be awarded to a winner from each of three age categories.
