Parent education continues

The Kenai Peninsula Community Care Center will hold a free video-based parent education program titled “Active Parenting Today” for parents of children ages 2 through 12. The classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays for seven weeks at the Kenai Public Health conference room. Class materials are provided. For more information, call Amber or Deb at 283-7635.

Swim lessons make a splash

Swim lessons are offered at the following pools:

· Soldotna High School — Swim sessions will be 10 days of lessons, for 40 minutes. Lessons are open for children ages 3 and older. Preregistration is recommended. Lessons will be held: July 9-20; and July 23-Aug. 3. Lessons are offered six different times a day. For more information, call 262-7419. The cost is $40 for swim lessons set. Private and semi-private lessons are available. Pool hours are: lap swim from 6 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday, and open swim from 2 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

· Kenai Central High School — Swim lessons: Eight days of swim lessons for 40 minutes Tuesdays through Fridays (call for times). Preregistration required. Lessons will be held: July 3-13 (closed July 4); and July 17-27.

Pool hours will be lap swim from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday; and swim workout 8 to 9 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The cost is $32 per swim lesson session; $3 for lap swim or open swim; or $25 for a punch card with 10 punches on the card. Pool rentals also are available. For more information, call 283-7476.

· Nikiski pool — Swimming lessons will be held: June 26-July 12 for competitive swim and juniors, lifeguarding, beginners, advanced beginners and Tiny Tots; and July 17-Aug. 2 for intermediates, beginners, advanced beginners and Tiny Tots. For more information, call 776-8800.

Craft sale set

The Sterling Senior Citizens Center will hold a Christmas in July craft sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 13 and 14. The Elderberry Cafe will be open and homemade goods will be available for purchase. Table rentals are $25 for two days. For more information, call 262-6808 or 262-2943.

Kenai Peninsula State Fair exhibit guides are available at the following locations: Cadre Feed, Trinity Green House, University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Service extension office; Kasilof Mercantile; Anchor Point Green House, Ninilchik Library, Ninilchik General Store, Homer Book Store, Wagon Wheel, Corner Stop, or the fair grounds office.
