NIKISKI (AP) -- Two men managed to escape without injury after their plane flipped over and sank in Island Lake in Nikiski.

Alaska State Troopers said the Beaver float plane operated by Alaska West Air of Nikiski flipped over on landing.

The pilot, Jim Robinson, 61, of Nikiski, and his passenger, David Richardson, 31, of Anchorage, were able to swim to shore after the crash.

Troopers say the two men were not injured.

The extent of damage to the plane isn't known. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
