Twins squeeze past White Sox

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jacque Jones drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth after Torii Hunter tied it with a two-run homer an inning earlier, giving the Minnesota Twins a 5-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night in their first meeting of the year.

Luis Rivas walked with two outs against Bobby Howry (0-1), took second on a wild pitch and scored on a line drive to deep center by Jones, who was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple to end the inning.

LaTroy Hawkins (3-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Eddie Guardado pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his league-leading 22nd save in 24 chances.

Rangers 8, Angels 5, 1st game Rangers 3, Angels 2, 2nd game

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Dave Burba allowed one run in 6 2-3 innings and Alex Rodriguez hit his 22nd homer as Texas completed a doubleheader sweep and won their season-high seventh straight game, 3-2 over the Anaheim Angels.

In the opener, rookie right-hander Joaquin Benoit pitched five innings to lead Texas to an 8-5 win before being sent back to the minors for the third time this season.

Athletics 13, Mariners 2

SEATTLE -- Eric Chavez and Greg Myers homered and streaking Oakland pounded Seattle ace Freddy Garcia for 10 runs as the Athletics won their eighth straight game.

Miguel Tejada hit a three-run double and John Mabry had a two-run double as the A's scored seven runs in the third inning. Oakland won for the 16th time in 17 games to move into second place and close within two games of the Mariners in the AL West.
