Unocal Alaska has once again stepped up to sponsor the 42nd Annual Soldotna Progress Day's event planned for the end of next month.

At last weeks Soldotna Chamber of Commerce meeting, Unocal Alaska's Christine Hutchinson, assistant to the Field Superintendent, accompanied by Janet Dormady and Jessica Buchanan, of Unocal, presented the Chamber with a check for $3,500.

According to Justine Polzin, Soldotna Chamber executive director, the money will cover costs for parade ribbons, advertising, entertainment, trophies, and port-a-potties. "With this kind of support, this year's Progress Day's will the greatest in our 42 year history," said Polzin.

The event, which draws visitors from all over Alaska, gets underway this year Saturday, July 27th, with the traditional parade down Binkley Street starting at 11:00am. "We are anticipating the biggest parade ever, and yes, we expect the Winner dogs will be back again this year," added Polzin.

Additionally this year there will be entertainment, including the Air Force Band from Elmendorf Air Force Base. West Park Avenue, by the Soldotna Senior Center and Parker Park, will feature vendors and spectacular events for children all day long. Progress Day's will also feature car races, and a special river festival put on by the

Kenai Watershed Forum at Soldotna Creek Park. For details about entering the parade or vendor booths, contact the Chamber at 262-9814.
