Leelynn Haywood Chumley

Sterling resident Leelynn Haywood Chumley died Sunday, June 23, 2002, near Cooper Landing as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was 33.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Sterling. Pastor Bob Reasner will officiate.

Mr. Chumley was born June 2, 1969, in Seagraves, Texas. He attended Soldotna High School and graduated from the Western College of Auctioneering in 1997. He lived most of his life in Alaska.

Mr. Chumley was raised in the family construction business, owned and operated his own trucking business and was an auctioneer since 1997.

He attended the Soldotna Church of God most of his life and recently attended Peninsula Bible Fellowship. He donated many hours to benefit auctions. He enjoyed snowmachines, stock car racing, Nascar racing and was an Oakland Raiders fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

"He was a loving dad who was very generous, hard-working and willing to give to anyone," his family said.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.H. "Cowboy" Chumley, W.A. "Mac" McCown and Margaret Holland; and uncles, Alan Sewell and Max McCown.

Mr. Chumley is survived by his wife, Laura Chumley; children, Logan and Paige Chumley; parents, Lee and Karen Chumley and Norm and Barb Blakeley; grandmother, Wanda House; father and mother-in-law, Paul and Jeanette Pietro; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jason and Jesse Chumley, Tye and Regina Langehennig, Brandon and Lisa Langehennig; sisters and brothers-in-law, Christi and Tommy Gilmore and Molly and Mitch Mahurin; brother, Sam Blakeley; his wife's sister, Heather Pietro; his wife's brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Sandra Pietro and Brad and Denise Pietro; nephews and nieces, Weston, Austin and Garrett Gilmore, Cody, Kyle, Ashley and Ryder Pietro, Emerald and Annie Mahurin and Kalynn, Ty'essa and Shelby Langehennig; uncles and aunts, Leon and Linda Smith, L.D. and Kathy Ellison, Joe and Jackie Chumley, Hugh and Linda Chumley, Jan and Wayne Wade, Shirley and Sam Gamble, Clyde and Jackie Sewell, Edna Sewell and Eddie Joe House; cousins, Lisa Ellison, Tommy and Kerstin Ellison, Rodney and Christine Chumley, Rhonda Chumley, Ray and Jenny Chumley, Randy and Anna Chumley, Janette and Jim Carey, Jacquet and Kelly Larrow, Joey Chumley, Mike Wade, Krista Meadows, Nanetta Ward, Tina Gamble, Mike McCown, Marybeth Smalley, Michelle Turner, Melonie McCown, Monica Feernow, Jennifer and Jeffrey Jones, Toni Studer and Amanda Sewell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leelynn Chumley Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo Bank.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
