Retirement communities topic at chamber

Today's Soldotna Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon at the Riverside House will feature Susan Sevilla, D.G. Smith Builders retirement community developer.

UCIDA meeting planned

The United Cook Inlet Drift Association will hold its 22nd annual membership meeting today from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kenai Elks Lodge in Kenai. For more information, call 260-9436.

DNR partially lifts burn permit ban

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources has lifted the burn permit suspension for small piles. Individuals must call in each day to activate the permit. Local fire departments also are allowing small permitted piles. For more information, call 260-4222.

Registration deadline extended

The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula has extended the registration deadline to Sunday for its girls basketball camp for third- through 12-graders. The camp will be run by Molly Tuter Aug. 1, 2 and 3. Registrations are accepted from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 283-2682.

Charity golf tournament planned

The American Red Cross Golf Classic is scheduled for July 6 at the Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna. There is a $60 entrance fee that includes green fees for 18 holes. Teams can register ahead of time or four-person groups will be created before the shotgun start at 8 a.m. For more information, call Vonnie Hanlin at 260-6647.

Mount Marathon memorabilia for sale

Fund raiser planned by Soroptimist International

Soroptimist International of the Twin Cities members are selling discount cards that can be used a various area businesses. The money raised from the $10 cards will help fund the annual young women's conference and scholarships.
